In an area of rapid development of science and technology today,as a communication media for science and technology,popular science plays an increasing important role.In recent years,a growing number of foreign popular science works were introduced to our country,and there is a great demand of translation to be done.Therefore,great importance was attached to the study of translation of popular science works.Based on author's practice participated in Global Tone Communication Technology Co.,Ltd.,difficulties involved in E-C translation of Geologica Earth's Dynamic Forces are analyzed in detail,mainlyincluding four aspects: 1)translation of plenty of proper nouns without explanation confuses target readers;2)expressions for measure words are in form of English unit plus international unit,English units of measure words are wrongly deleted;3)improper translation of non-English words;4)functions of dash in English sentences are ignored and wrongly translated by the author.The book Geologica Earth's Dynamic Forces belongs to popular science text,which not only transfers information to the reader,but also transfers scientific knowledge accurately.Therefore,the target text should focus on the source text.Under the guidance of Christiane Nord's documentary translation,there are three translation forms should be adopted to cope with difficulties as mentioned from above.To be more specific,philological translation,foreignizing translation and word-for-word translation.The primary findings of this report are expected to shed light on and provide reference to translation of popular science text.
