A Study On Reduplicated Form Of Adjectives In Modern Chinese

This paper does a systematical research on the reduplicated form of adjectives. It mainly discusses four respects, including range, semantics, function, and the motivation of the reduplicated form. This paper is divided into seven parts, including the foreword, summary, four chapters and conclusion. To be specific, the functions of each part are as follows.In foreword, it briefly introduces the significance of the selected topic, the range of the research. And then the second chapter describes present research situation of reduplicated adjective.The third chapter discusses the range of the reduplicated adjectives. Firstly, confirm the configuration properties of the reduplicated adjectives. Second, on the previous basis, analyze the representative point of view. Finally, to make sure the range of reduplicated adjectives including AA、AABB、BABA、ABB.The fourth chapter is the focus of this article. It includes the basic type of semantic characteristics and the grammatical meaning of the reduplicated adjectives. The most important part is the discussion of the characteristics of semantic. This paper believes that the [+ scalable], [+ specific], [+ static], have a stronger ability of the overlapping of adjectives. With only one or two semantic features having a weaker ability. The grammatical meaning of reduplicated adjectives includes three aspects, the state description, quantity and the dynamic meaning. Each type of grammatical meaning corresponding to different types of overlapping, the three kinds of grammatical meaning is administrative.The fifth chapter starts from the adjective overlapping acting as a syntactic component and combination ability to describe the syntax function of superimposed adjectives. Compared with the base type, this paper found that the referential function of reduplicated adjective is decreasing, but the describing functions is enhancing. It can act as attribute, predicate, adverbial, and complement freely. Combination ability of the base type is limited by more.The sixth chapter has a brief analysis from the synchronic level of superimposed motivation and assimilation. There are three drivers of the overlapping: The needs of the vivid language, table quantity, and the adverbialization. Generalization performs in the internal and external effects of adjectives.The final conclusion of this paper is a systematic summary of the main points, and points out some deficiencies of this paper.
