Reduplication is a grammatical means which is easy to construct and can express meaning precisely. Chinese and Thai are similar to a certain extent with respect to adjective reduplication, but most Thai learners of Chinese language could not master and use the adjective reduplication very well since it is not flexible and still vastly different from that in Thai despite the similarities. Based on the nonideal situation in Thai students’ acquisition of adjective reduplication in Chinese, the paper focuses on Thai students and discusses the teaching of the Chinese adjective reduplication. The thesis describes and analyzes adjective reduplication both from the perspectives of modern Chinese and TCSL (Teaching Chinese as a Second Language). By comparing and contrasting the construction form, tone, grammatical meaning and grammatical function of adjective reduplication in Chinese and Thai, the paper first lays the foundation for the following error analysis and teaching recommendation. With a focus on adjective reduplication and Thai learners, relevant data is collected and collated from Corpus of HSK dynamic composition of Beijing Language and Culture University and foreign students’interlanguage of Jinan University. There are in total993valid corpus, which contains170error corpus. On the basis of the corpus investigation, we conduct surveys among the juniors majoring in Chinese in Mahasarakhan University, Thai students in Hunan Normal University and East China Normal University and Thai teachers in local primary and secondary schools in Thailand as the subjects. The paper complements and integrates various corpus and explores the rate of utilization and errors. According to error analysis theory and second language acquisition theory, focusing on the grammatical form of Chinese and Thai adjective reduplication, the paper discusses the internal structure, grammar limitations,"de" form, semantics, pragmatics and other aspects of errors in order to find out the underlying reasons for errors. Finally, the paper combines the major errors arising from the learning process of Thai students and the reasons why the errors occur, searches the teaching points from three aspects including the compiling of textbooks, teaching and learners, and gives some suggestions regarding learning and teaching. The paper aims to give Thai teachers and students some useful references.
