Research Of The Local May Seventh Cadre Schools Of Hubei Province

The May Seventh Cadre Schools were the schools where cadres were organized and concentrated to learn and work for carrying out the May 7th Directive of Mao Zedong.The local May Seventh Cadre Schools of Hubei province were those that were set up by parties and governments at all levels and enterprise and public institutions,except those by central state organ.Since the cultural revolution occurred in 1966,the parties and governments and all levels of Hubei province were destroyed,and many cadres became idle,who were necessary to relocate. At the beginning of the revolution, when the May 7th Directive of Mao published,some forces,workers,farmers and students tried to took it into practice.Revolutionary committee at all levels in order to deal with such case,set up the study classes of Maoism.But it did not really count.the May Seventh Cadre Schools were developed at the background.After the Mao’s directive of “most of the cadres going down to do manual labor” in October,1968,the revolutionary committee at all levels of Hubei province started to make arrangement,and the schools became the main places for the cadres.Before the Lin Biao incident,in the schools,the cadres were asked to have political study,political activities and high-strength collective labor.And the politic activities made something jittery,which attacked the cadres brutally.Even some of them lost their lives.Since the Lin Biao incident in 1971,the May seventh cadres schools in Hubei implemented the movement of criticing Lin Biao,including the Lin’s crime and his thoughts on education of cadres.They gained the cadres for signing job,as many cadres return back to their work,and cadres on the job became the major people to be trained by turns.Even the amounts of the schools got more,some of which were united with party schools.At the end of the cultural revolution, the schools had movements of criticing Lin Biao and Confucius,and criticing Deng xiaoping and strike against the right deviationist wind of reversing verdicts that were really wrong.Many cadres felt very bored and disliked.After the cultural revolution in 1976,the schools took the movement against the Gang of Four.As the decline in the position of the schools and the rise of the party schools,the May seventh cadres schools were no better popular,and more and more schools were revoked.On the February 17 th,1979,the state council published a “notification about some case of existing the May seventh cadre schools.” Soon afterward,the schools in Hubei province went to the end. Although the local schools in Hubei province lasted only 11 years,they had made great effects on the province,and many cadres and intellectual had changed their fates.The politics,economy,culture,cadres and so on in Hubei province had great negative influences.However,some positive influences:learning the books of Marxism-Leninism helped the cadres had a better understanding of the theory.collective labor helped the cadres gained more knowlege of the production,and steeled their spirits.But in a word, the positive influences were really small.The schools were the results of the cultural revolution,which should be denied.On the contrary, we were supposed to learn lessons from them.
