Against the backdrop of globalization, the beauty of Chinese characters and culture would be advocated by translation. The Mysterious Key and What It Opened written by Louisa May Alcott has not yet been translated, so the author is aimed at analyzing the text language, adopting suitable translation strategies and skills from the perspective of words, sentences and figures of speech, and with the help of paralleled texts, elevating the quality of the translated version that meets the expectations of targeted readers.The text language is both terse and vivid in describing the inner activities of characters, carrying out the portrayal in an orderly manner. Similar as English is to Chinese, there’re plenty of differences, posing a challenge for translators as to render a version with good diction and vividness. Thus, it is difficult and worth pondering over how to realize the conversion of both language guided by theories that satisfy readers’ expectations. In terms of words, the author studied the phenomenon o polysemy and offered a solution accordingly. Besides, translation was made more convenient by the conversion of words’ properties. In terms of sentences, the translated version was improved by reversing, syncopation together with negation. And in terms of figures of speech, literal translation, free translation, four-character structures and reduplicated words were adopted.This report delves into translation strategies and skills of English novels, hoping to offer some lessons and guidance to the studies of translation of English novels in the future.
