China Core Vocabulary Cultural Volume Translation Project Report

The source text for translation is the China Key Words program,an internet big data corpus,initiated by China Publishing Group and implemented by China Translation Corporation and Global Tone Communication Technology Co.,Ltd..This program was recommended by the co-supervisor.The translator and another classmate participated in this program and I am responsible for the translation of the culture section.As a bridge of cross-cultural communication,translation is the link between different civilizations.In the process of translation,different translation strategies and methods will lead to different results.The quality of the translation may directly or indirectly influence the readers' understanding of the source language culture.Therefore,the translator must choose carefully and flexibly various translation strategies and methods to find the best way to achieve the effect of cross-cultural communication.This report is based on the case analysis of the China Key Word program,the adopted translation methods and strategies used in folklore text are analyzed and discussed with examples,including Domestication and foreignization,literal translation,transcription and amplification.It is a summary of the translation task.At the same time,the author also wishes to contribute her humble effort to introduce Chinese culture.The purpose of this translation practice is to apply what I have learned into practice,in hope of improving translation abilities,deepening the understanding of translation,accumulates experience and find out the problems and deficiencies at the same time.
