This report is based on the translation of the introduction and parts of the first Chapter of the book Organic Struggle:The Movement for Sustainable Agriculture in the United States. This new book is written by American author Brian K. Obach. Under the guidance of Eugene A. Nida’s functional equivalence theory, this report aims to deal with the problem of making original text fully expressed in the target language during the translation of scientific and technological works. After collecting and sorting out related materials about organic movement and organic agriculture, the translator read the original text several times. Finally, introduction and parts of the first Chapter are translated according to functional equivalence theory. The translation material is related to organic movement and organic agriculture. Nowadays, the concept of "organic" has an extensive popularity among people. This report aims to expand the effect of organic movement and to promote organic movement’s spreading in China. During the process of translation, the first step is to analyze the characteristics of the vocabulary and syntax in scientific and technological works. Then the translator combines these characteristics with practical translation cases and sums up some translation strategies under the guidance of functional equivalence theory. This report can be divided into three parts. The first part is introduction, which mainly introduces the background of the original text and the purpose of this report. The second part, main body of this report, contains three chapters. The first Chapter describes the translation task, including background and characteristics of the translation text.
