Food,a critical issue in the national economy and the people's livelihood, exerts crucial influence on the development of politics, economy and society.Based on this fact, this translation practice selects chapter 29 and chapter 30 of The Oxford Handbook of Food,Politics and Society, published by Oxford University Press in 2015,as the source text. The source text mainly describes global movements for food justice and organic foods movement.Through this translation, people can have certain knowledge of food movements and this translation can provide certain reference for those who are interested in food movements and related researches. The body part of this translation report consists of preparations for the translation, translation difficulties and case analysis.Parallel texts, translation tools and terms in the source text are introduced and summarized in the preparations for the translation. And the translator selects the framework of “comprehension, expression and adaptation”(CEA)of Li Changshuan as the guidance of the whole translation and the subsequent report.Based on this framework, the report analyzes translation difficulties in comprehension, expression and adaptation and gives corresponding solutions.Comprehension mainly refers to the accurate comprehension of words, phrases and sentence structures through dictionaries, contexts and online resources.Expression, focusing on the language differences between Chinese and English,is to make the translation conform to Chinese expression habits through the expression of technical terms and the adjustments of narrative methods and language structures.Adaptation focuses on flexible adjustments of the translation, including using Chinese idioms and handling sentences of figures of speech. In so doing, the target text is smooth and natural, and ultimately, acceptable and readable to the target reader.Through this translation,it is found that an effective translation requires the good mastery of the source language, target language and translation strategies. In addition, with the guidance of the CEA framework, the translation yields twice the result with half the effort and the organic combination of comprehension, expression and adaptation applied properly in the translation is conductive to the faithfulness, smoothness and elegance of the translation.
