As a significant classic of Shang Qing Taoism, Zhen Gaosorted out the thoughts of Taoism, and enhanced its doctrine and creeds. The book summarized the new creation of deity pedigree, saintdeeds, geography, sacred ceremony, theory system, means of self-cultivation and ways of practice, which became an indispensable source of later Taoismstudies.Poetry took a large part in Zhen Gao, by the vivid description of the Taoists’ living environment and the condition after the enlightenment, it manifested the saints’ different personalities and elucidated the thoughts of the immortal. All of these have a great influence on later generations’ literary production. The images and stories of the saints, the art of language and imagery, have not only made itself an abundant material source of later poetry and novel creation, but also enriched the concept of literature by stimulating the imagination of people.This paper aims at the aesthetic study of the poetry in Zhen Gao. It is divided into four chapters: the first chapter mainly discusses the classification of the Zhen Gao’s poetry, and points out the inherited and innovated role Zhen Gaoplays on the ancient poetry category which already exist. The second chapter mainly discusses the emerging soilof Zhen Gao, including the social environment of Weijin Southern and Northern Dynasties and the cultural background of the Taoism become literary" during that time, and points out the "demeanor of Weijin Dynasty". The beauty of poetry in Zhen Gaois discussed in the third chapter from the aspects of form and content, which offer material for the contemporary and later literary creation. The last chapter sites the example of late Tang Dynasty to discusses the influence of Zhen Gao’s poetry from angles of motif, genre, artistic conception, and the imagination.
