A Comparative Research On The Theme Of "Flee And Quest" About Patrick Modiano And Su Tong

Modiano Patrick has been appraised by Nobel literature Committee that he used memory technique to delineate human unpredictable destiny and uncover different facets in France that was once dominated during Second World War. Su Tong, receiver of the Mao Dun Literary Prize in 2015, is an unique writer in Modern China. He used memories and experiences in childhood to outline a historical painting scroll from birth of series of novels of Maple Tree Township and Xiangchunshu Street, which explored ancestors fled their homeland to search for ideal destinations. Novels of Modiano and Su Tong illustrated the common theme of "Flee and Quest".This dissertation consists of three sections. The first section mainly discussed origin of theme of "Flee and Quest" from both western cultures and China, and Fleeing, Finding and relationship between the two subjects were also summarized. In the following parts, it was separately to briefly sketch "Flee and Quest" in Modiano and Su Tong, in order to leave a monolithic recognition of two authors from a macro-viewpoint.The second section compared theme of "Flee and Quest" in Modiano and Su Tong works from displaying layout, mainly from spirit astray of marginal characters, adolescent delineating perspective under memory load and postmodern aesthetic characteristics by concluding that there are mixed with similarities and discrepancies in Modiano and Su Tong.The third section contrasted reasons for origins of theme "Flee and Quest" in Modiano and Su Tong. The author examined reasons from Modiano and Su Tong themselves and their characters two facets to compare the reasons. For works and relevant characters, the effects came from external war and catastrophes and internal life and lonely consciousness. As for writers, effects were similar childhood experience and growing regional environment.In today’s world, where technology is rapidly changing, mankind has used weapons that are invented in modern civilization to start two world war. The previous spirit value system has collapsed but new value system is still in its embryo. Anxiety, hesitation and depression are immersed among modern human who are desperately eager for fleeing changeless habitant to find spiritual free land, which is an actual situation for man. Therefore, Modiano and Su Tong, both having captured common destiny of mankind, conveyed in literature with a empathic feeling.
