Teaching Chinese Tones is a difficult part in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. Most of the world’s languages are non-tonal languages. For majority of students whose native language is Ukrainian acquire Chinese tones is a very big difficulty. The most important reason why other people don’t understand Chinese speech clearly is incorrect acquiring of Chinese tones.In Ukraine Chinese tones teaching is the weak link in Chinese language teaching. Although recently this question attracted the attention of linguists, but there are still many problems, Chinese language teaching is still not ideal. By comparing similarities and differences of Ukrainian and Chinese languages phonetic systems, we analyze how to teach Chinese tones, how to make Ukrainian students acquire Chinese four tones better and faster. This research examines the present situation of Ukrainian students acquiring Chinese four tones. We use a questionnaire to investigate difficulties Ukrainian students face when they study Chinese tones, analyze the reasons of them, analyze the types of common mistakes and propose teaching methods and techniques that can help Ukrainian student to understand Chinese tones.This thesis consists of five chapters. In Chapter One there are general introduction of the problem, description of the purpose of research, the object and methods of research, data sources, summary of the research papers made by Chinese and foreign scientists.In Chapter Two we mainly compare Ukrainian and Chinese languages phonetic systems, explain their differences and compare Chinese four tones with Ukrainian stress and accent.In Chapter Three according to questionnaire results we analyze the problems and mistakes of Ukrainian students while using Chinese tones, evaluate the teacher’s role in this process, propose how to avoid them and give recommendations for studying them. Also we explain which difficulties speakers of non-tonal languages face and how to solve them.In Chapter Four we advice the strategy of teaching Chinese tones for Ukrainian students, teaching methods, teachers’ role, training mode and give some other teaching advices.Chapter six is the last one; it consists of conclusions and suggestions for future researcher of the similar topic.
