This is a translation report on an excerpt from an original Japanese book titled Preparations for Old-Age Care. The original book on popular science written by Nan Hezi describes from the first-person perspective how the elderly prepare for old-age care.As China has entered aging society period, this book is translated and recommended with the hope of introducing Japanese advanced concepts of old-age care and knowledge of old-age protection to Zhenjiang City and even the elderly countrywide in order to render their life comfortable and thus making pygmy contributions to China’s aging society. The original book reaches a length of 160,000 and is separated into 7 chapters. The book was required to be completed with a time limit of 4 months. The author of this thesis was responsible for the first three chapters and chose the second chapter and the first half of the third chapter for this translation report which mainly discusses instruments conducive to the elderly and how to stay calm in emergency.This translation report is divided into four chapters. The first chapter contains the project introduction such the background, objective, significance and structure. The second chapter includes research background such as the introduction of the author, content and preparations. The third chapter discusses the translation procedures through Rice’s text type analysis and selects translation strategies to address problems under the guidance of Skopos theory. Specific cases will be put forward and reflections are needed. The last chapter summarizes experience and problems that remain to be solved.
