Report On Simulated Consecutive Interpreting Of Obama’s Speech At The Security Council Summit In 2014

Against the background of globalization,China communicates increasingly closely with the countries of the world in many fields such as politics,economy and culture,which makes the translation industry,especially the oral interpretation play a more and more important role and draw great attention of the state,professionals and learners.Conference interpretation,as one of the most accurate modes of interpreting,has received many professionals’ attention including experts and scholars.Consecutive interpreting,as a commonly used mode of meeting interpretation,has the characteristic of instantaneous.It requires the interpreter concentrate highly on it and remember the source language in short time.Since the interpretation begins after a period time of outputting of the source language,so the interpreter has to take some notes to aid his memory.Hence one can see that note-taking plays an important role in the process of consecutive interpretation.The thesis starts with the author’s oral interpretation practice and then discusses some of the impressive points-note-taking and some other issues that have once puzzled the author. The thesis intends to explore the factors that influence the quality of the interpretation and means to improve the interpreting level based on a simulated consecutive interpretation practice. This thesis describes every part of the author’s simulated practice and shed some thoughts to the issues met in the practice, such as the distribution of the interpreter’s energy, identification of the notes taken, immediate interpretation, and remedy of the omission and faulty sections. Through the simulated practice,the author finds deficiencies and shortages during the interpretation process and work out means of improvement of interpretation by strengthening practice in these aspects.Meanwhile, some beneficial references may be provided to learners who might encounter the same confusion and deficiency.
