This Chinese-English consecutive interpretation practice report is based on the material of Baidu CEO Robbin's speech at the Baidu World Congress. The material is related to the background of the age of information technology.Baidu is one of the world's largest Chinese search engines, the largest Chinese websites.Baidu's goal is to provide a more convenient and fast online search and application service for Chinese people. The author simulates the speech and invites Chinese students' majoring in English interpretation and English-native teacher as the audiences. This material belongs to the field of science and technology innovation. Thus the language structure is more complex. When the speed of speech is a little faster, and the more oral information is engaged, the difficulties of consecutive interpretation will increase. In addition, many technical terms are involved in the material, which make interpretation not easy. Therefore,In the process of interpretation, improper pause occurs from time to time, which paralyses the communication of information and the understanding of the audiences.Based on the guiding principles proposed by Gile's Effort Model, the author analyzes the causes of improper pauses showing up in the radio recording of simulated interpretation, concludes the problem into five aspects and puts forward some practical solutions to these problems. These problems cannot be completely overcome in a short period, but in accordance with the energy allocation in the listening and output phrase shown by the Gile's Effort Model, the author believes that the interpreting ability can be greatly improved in the future interpretation work. The problems of improper pauses encountered by the author in interpretation may also be problems for other interpreters. The author hopes that the analysis of his own problems and the proposed solutions can provide references for other interpreters and help them.
