A Report On The Chinese Translation Of The English Articles Of Public Health

Public health is a public service that is related to the people’s health. With the rapid development of the society and economy, China has made great achievements in public health. However, due to the insufficient public health service, there are various challenges. The author of the present report chose some English articles of public health from the website of the Council on Foreign Relations of the US and translated them into Chinese. Accordingly, the present report is written on the translation concerning with the problems and solutions. It is intended to investigate the translator’s shortcomings, improve the translation abilities accordingly and provide references for the related translation activities in the future.This report consists of four major parts-- the translation task description, the translation procedure, the case analysis and the conclusion. The task description gives an overall introduction to the translation task concerning with the background of the translation and the text features. The translation procedure is about the preparation for the translation, planning, execution and quality control. In the case analysis, the major problems are presented including those caused by the lack of terminology standardization, the inaccuracy of information sources, the translator’ limited understanding of word/phrase meanings and the verbosity of headlines. These problems are analyzed. The specific solutions are presented. Accordingly, the translation strategies which are useful to solve these problems are discussed. The conclusion part summarizes some unsolved problems and presents inspiration and prospects for the future learning and job.
