Faced with the globalization and frequent international communication, China has been the second economy in the world, and its international position is rising higher and higher. Meanwhile more and more people from all over the world have come to China for visits or communications where the education exchanges are included. This thesis is a report on the consecutive interpreting of NCCS principal’s speech in Hebei Xinji High School on Nov 16 th, 2015 which involves the educational system of American high schools. The writer acted as the consecutive interpreter for NCCS principal, Mr Steve Gratto in his speech. This thesis develops in four chapters. Chapter one is made up of the introduction to the interpreting task and task background; Chapter two deals with the whole process of the interpreting which consists of pre-interpreting preparations, interpreting and self-evaluation for the task, including how the task was completed and some problems; Chapter three is about the analysis of interpreting cases where the strategy of proper simplification, the conversion of parts of speech, and reasonable disassembly and restructure of attributive clauses are applied to solve the problems from the consecutive interpreting, under skopos theory. Chapter four concludes the thesis with the reflections that the pre-interpreting preparations and skills of theories are indispensible in interpreting.
