Compilation And Research On Xinhuang Dialect Dictionary Based On Utterance Examples In Collections

This thesis takes the Chinese dialect used in the county of Xinhuang as the object of the study and transliterates the main discourses obtained in the field investigation to make the work good for collection, displays the vocabulary in the discourses for collection and the everyday conversations in the form of dictionary and analyzes and discusses about the features of vocabulary of Xinhuang dialect based on the previous research findings.Xinhuang Dialect Dictionary includes about 3000 entries, and indicates the part of speech and give the paraphrase. Part of the entries and example sentences are from the discourses for collection. The Spelling Program for Xinhuang Dialect is designed to give each entry the phonetic notation which enables the entires can be sequenced and searched automatically with the computer.After the contrastive analysis on the included entries, it is found that in a same semantic field, the number of words in Xinhuang dialect is different from that in Mandarin Chinese. One word in Xinhuang dialect can serve the same purpose as several words in Mandarin Chinese. For instance, both "没" and "不" in the semantic field of negativity in Mandarin Chinese are replaced by "没" in Xinhuang dialect. And some words in Xinhuang dialect and Mandarin Chinese are different from each other in the part of speech. Some words that has only one part speech in Mandarin Chinese can have more than one grammatical functions in Xinhuang dialect. One case in point is the noun "板" which can be used as a verb in Xinhuang dialect. Besides, the some morphemes that cannot be deemed as words in Mandarin Chinese are words in Xinhuang dialect. The character "飙" is a good example.This thesis summarizes the characteristic way of word formation in Xinhuang dialect.It is embodied in at least four forms.First is noun in the reduplication form such as"勺勺".Second is noun in the form of N(noun)plus"家"like"学生家".Third is adjective made up by V(verb)and"人",such as"吵人".The last is adjective taking the form of"X卵A"----"逛卵滑",for example.After comparing the vocabulary of Xinhuang dialect with that in Xiang language and that in Dong language, it is found that there are elements of Xiang language in the vocabulary system of Xinhuang dialect in that there exist identical words and words that have the same word-formation morphemes in both Xinhuang dialect and Xiang language. In addition, a small number of words are found to be of Dong language origin and there are certain limitations on their usages.
