This translation report chooses A Mind for Numbers——the work of Barbara Oakley as the material. Barbara Oakley is a professor of engineering at the University of Auckland and the founder of the world’s third largest massive open online course. Among her books, there is one, A Mind for Numbers, introducing how to excel at math and science. This book combines Professor Oakley’s learning experience and her theory research, which has excellent guiding function on studying math and science, cultivating creative thinking, as well as improving studying interest. In order to make more Chinese readers to study and use learning methods proposed for reference, the translator made every effort to translate the book into Chinese with the translation theory learned as the instruction.After finishing the translation practice, the translator reflected the whole translation and produced this translation report. The translation report summed up problems the translator came up against during translation, and enumerated several methods she used to solve the problems.This translation report is divided into three parts:The first part is the introduction. The translator introduced the background information of the writer and her book as well as the significance of translating this book.The second part is the main body, consisting of three chapters:Chapter One is task description. In this part, the translator listed the goals of the translation and the arrangement she made to carry out this translation task on time.Chapter Two is process description. This chapter is about the process in translating this book. The translator divides the whole process into three phases:pre-translation, execution and finalization. She lists the focuses of each phase and illustrates the result of each stage.Chapter Three is a case analysis of translation. To demonstrate the reflection of the translation process, in this section, the translator mainly analyzes two subjects:the translation of terminology and the translation strategy for translating educational books.The last part is the conclusion. The translator reflects on the whole translation project and summarizes the lessons she has learned through this process.
