A Report On Translation Of HSE Documents Of Flour Corporation Cracker Project Under The Guidance Of Functional Equivalence Theory

In order to protect the safety construction and production of the petroleum,chemical and petrochemical industries,industry participants established a safety,environment,and health management system(HSE)to reduce or avoid safety accidents.This report is to summarize the author's experience in translation of the HSE document of Saudi Kayan Cracker Project.In this report,the author retrospects his experience of the translation on the basis of the translation project.Analyzing the source language features,the author found that the source text has a certain similarity with the technical standard text and legal documents.Thus,the Functional Equivalence theory could guide the author to ensure the information equivalence in translation.Under the guidance of the theory,the author has solved the problems on the translation of terms,passive sentences,and long sentences.This report discusses ways to combine terminology databases,parallel texts,and textual content to translate terminology.At the sentence level,the translation of passive sentences and long sentences is analyzed based on the Chinese expression habits and the information equivalence.The purpose of this report is to provide the methods and techniques to do the translation of HSE texts more effectively.
