| This practice report is based on the translation practice of Chapter One and part of Chapter Two of the book Writing to Win- The Legal Writer written by Steven D Stark. The report introduces the process of the translation practice, and then summarizes and analyzes the completion status of the task with the purpose of combining the professional theories on translation that the translator has learnt with the present translation practice.As a quite practical style, the works of legal writing have a certain guiding significance to legal writing and other daily writing. According to "functional equivalence" theory from the American translator Eugene Nida and "static equivalence" which is usually used in legal translation, with the help of examples, the translation practice explores a number of effective translation strategies and methods.This report consists of three parts:an introduction, the main body and a conclusion.The first part is the introduction. It talks about the present study on the translation of legal writing books, the problems to be solved in the report, the application value and theoretical significance of this practice in related areas.The main body of the report is composed of three chapters. The first chapter is the description of the task including the task background, author’s introduction and task characteristics, including the features of task in language, style and target readers. The second chapter is the process description containing the pre-task preparation, difficulties in modification of the draft translation, proofreading and editing. The third chapter is case analysis, the core of this report, in which the translator preliminarily discusses and summarizes the problems about legal terms, long and complicated sentences and conversion of part of speech in translation.The last part is the conclusion of this translation practice, summarizing the relevant problems, sharing the impressions and gains from this task and inspiration to further research work. |
