A Study On Translation Of Industrial Report From The Perspective Of Text Typology Theory

Along with the development of ecological economy and science and technology, automobile industry and product mix of automobile enterprises begin to change and new energy vehicle industry is getting more attention than ever before. As an authoritative and instructional document, Annual Report on New Energy Vehicle Industry in China (2015) describes the general situation about Chinese NEV industry of 2014 and present challenges. It plays an important role for both domestic and international enterprises in understanding the latest industrial developments.Based on the translation of general report part of Annual Report on New Energy Vehicle Industry in China (2015), this thesis, as a translation study report, discusses how text typology theory raised by Katharina Reiss guides the translation of industrial reports. According to this theory, all texts can be divided into three categories on the basis of different language function:informative text, expressive text and operative text. And translators shall adopt corresponding translation strategies while dealing with different kind of text. This translation material is a typical informative text with outstanding features of words, syntax and discourse. For example, it has certain professional terms and Chinese expressions and many long sentences and coordinate structures using active voice. Besides, the whole passage has clear expression and strong logic. Therefore, we believe if right translation methods and techniques are adopted in accordance with text typology theory, the translation will achieve total fidelity to the source text. Meanwhile, accuracy of words and coherence of discourse can be guaranteed during the translation, and all sentences conform to the expressive habits of target language. This translation practice once again verifies the directive value of text typology theory to general translations and translations of industrial reports.
