A Translation Report On International Energy Outlook 2016 Under The Guidance Of Reiss' Text Typology

This is a report on the translation of the International Energy Outlook 2016(IEO 2016).The IEO 2016 presents an assessment by the U.S.Energy Information Administration(EIA)of the outlook for international energy markets from 2016 to 2040.The projections are used by international agencies,governments,trade associations,and other planners and analysts in energy sector.Chapter Five of the IEO 2016 is selected as the source text of this translation task.Positioned as report genre,the translated text can be classified as an informative text in the light of Reiss' s Text Typology.The focus of the informative text is the content rather than form.The target text of an informative text should be in plain prose with explicitation where required to represent objects or facts of the source text.To ensure the accuracy of the target text,the translator has paid much attention to the translation of terms in multiple sectors,proper nouns,specific expressions,and graph–related expressions in lexical level;while for the fluency of sentences,such specific methods as addition,splitting and recasting,and shift have been adopted flexibly in syntactic level.This report is composed of six chapters.Chapter 1 is an introduction of the background and significance of the translation.Chapter 2 is the description of the translation process.Chapter 3 introduces the chosen chapter's content and text features;Chapter 4 introduces the theoretical basis for the translation;In Chapter 5,specific translation methods are presented with examples in both lexical and syntactic level.Finally,Chapter 6 makes a conclusion for the whole translation task.
