Analysis Of C-E Simultaneous Interpretation Strategies From The Perspective Of Interpretive Theory

Since the Reform and Opening-up Policy, there have been significant and unprecedented developments in China in all respects and contacts with other countries around the world have been increasingly frequent, which have driven the development of the field of translation and interpretation in China. Simultaneous Interpretation is required in a number of international occasions, and its quality may cause direct influence on communication. In this case, the Interpretive Theory being the guidepost, this essay aims to analyze main difficulties and their solutions in the course of Chinese-English simultaneous interpretation of two of President Xi Jinping’s speeches in America in 2015.According to the Interpretive Theory, the target of translation is not the language itself, but the meanings that the language carries. There are three stages that a translator would go through, that is, comprehension, deverbalization. reproduction. It is not the simple exchange between language codes, but the content the speaker wants to express that a translator expresses. Since the Interpretive Theory is of great significance to simultaneous interpretation, this essay analyzes two of the speeches President Xi Jinping delivered during his visit to the U.S. in 2015, and summarizes some main difficulties in them. They are long sentences, serial verb sentences and idioms, proverbs, citations. In addition, this essay summarizes four strategies of simultaneous interpretation used by the translator. They are free interpretation, explaining and illustrating, class shift and logic adjustment.Under the guidance of Interpretive Theory, using the strategies of simultaneous interpretation mentioned above helps interpreters to better cope with the difficulties during simultaneous interpreting. Also, it makes translation more suitable, communication more effective.
