Translation Practice Report On The Excerpt Chapter (Chapter Ⅲ) Of A Companion To Colonial America

A Companion to Colonial America is a historical biographical work reflecting the modern history of colonial America, edited by Daniel Vickers, a Canadian professor of history. The book is divided into 23 chapters, with each chapter an independent essay, and each essay is written by an expert in that field. The whole book displays the colonial history of modern America from the aspects of politics, religion, immigration, gender, ecology, etc, which is an important reference literature for researches of modern American history, and there is no published official Chinese version of this book currently.The third chapter "ecology" of this book is selected for the translation practice project, on which this translation project report is based. The author of this chapter is John Brooke, a historian, and the essay stands at the wider perspective of ecological history, analyzes the influences of American colonial history to American ecology, and interprets modern American ecological history and changes in this process in detail.In combination with translation practice, this translation project report describes the preparations before translation, translation process and treatments after translation in detail. While at the same time, with terms management, background knowledge and applications of translation theories as entry points, some specific cases in the process of translation are analyzed, and problems and deficiencies existed in this translation practice are discussed. This research report has some practical significance and guiding significance to the translations of academic essays in the natural science field, while the Chinese version presented by this translation practice project also has some practical significance to the researches of colonial history and ecological history of modern America.
