Along with the development of globalization, food culture plays more and more important role in a country’s culture soft power. Besides the popularity of food culture can also represent its international influence of a country. Nowadays the popularity of American fast food becomes a symbol of reflecting the power of American culture. So it is significant to do research on American food culture.This is a translation report based on the book Anything That Moves: Renegade Chefs, Fearless Eaters, and the Making of a New American Food Culture, written by Dana Goodyear, a writer of The New Yorker. The translator selects the whole first chapter and a part of the second chapter as translation materials. The translator focuses on the translation methods of food vocabulary under the guidance of equivalent effect theory and the translation methods of sentences which include literal translation method and free translation method.The main part of this translation report is the analysis of typical examples. The translator selects some typical cases to analyze the reasons of choosing this translation method and to show some specific techniques in the translation of some specific sentences. Because some food words are not English, so the translator takes full advantage of online dictionaries. For food vocabulary, the translator mainly adopts literal translation, while some are translated with notes. In order to make the translation more acceptable to target readers, for the sentences in the source text, the translator mainly uses literal translation method and free translation method. As the type of the source text is informal, so the translator translates some dialogues in a vivid and vigorous way. The last part of this translation report is the conclusion about translation. |
