Jean Dubuffet is one of the most important French artists of the 20th century. He devoted his life to find the origin of art, with the art style continuously changing, he had tried a lot of artistic experimentation in his life, and his attitude about anti-culture and anti-aesthetic came to fight against all the rules of social convention. His "Art Brut" philosophy, focused on the art created by marginalized groups that had not been taken seriously in the past, had fully exploited the creative power of the human subconscious, and opened up new areas of artistic expression of the spiritual world, its contribution to the development of modern art in the West should not be overlooked. In all these series, the L’Hourloupe series was not only the longest, but also the most mature in the whole developing process, it involved a number of areas, fully reflected its unique property and advanced aesthetic conception, accompanied with new forms and new level. In this article, the L’Hourloupe series is taken as the research object, combined with formal analysis, technical analysis, and the researches application-related in psychology. By discussing the L’Hourloupe series’ background, its art form, and its process of evolution in-depth and with expanding analysis, the purpose is to reveal its most essential spiritual connotation. I consider that Dubuffet’s art and his artistic theory, which have touched the most fundamental and the deepest in arrangement of ideas of human’s original thoughts, should be given much more research in-depth. At the same time, I hope that through the studies of special artist, it could enrich my overall architecture of Western art history context.
