| With specific features of relaxation, humor and readability, online entertainment news enjoys an numerous popularity among various of news and increasingly becomes one of the crucial ways for cultural exchange between countries. Studies on news have already been drawn much attention and gained numerous achievements for now, while the study of online entertainment news attracts less attention. Hence, It is of great significance to have a study on online entertainment news.This report aims at the English-Chinese translation of online entertainment news. 40 pieces of English entertainment news have been chosen to translate from five mainstream foreign entertainment news websites: Dailymail, Rollingstone, Movieweb, TMZ and Designscreen. This report has been intensified through conducting a quantitative approach. One corpus is established to analyze the linguistic features of the source text. Under the guidance of communicative translation theory and text typology theory by Peter Newmark, this report explores out five specific translation methods to translate the source text on the lexical and syntactic level in order to make the target text both acceptable and comprehensible for target readers. Five chapters are included in this translation report. Chapter one presents the background and significance of the study. The report’s structure is briefly introduced in this part as well. Chapter two presents the theoretical basis of this report: communicative translation and text typology. Chapter three is an introduction to the source text, including the content and the linguistic features of the source text on the lexical and syntactic level. Chapter four aims to analyze the English-Chinese translation of online entertainment news under the guidance of communicative translation theory and presents how this theory is realized with five specific translation methods on the lexical and syntactic level. Chapter five is the conclusion of this report. Some major findings and limitations during the translation process are presented in this part. The author intends to find out some specific translation methods and skills in translating online entertainment news and offer some practical methods for further study in this field. |
