A Report On News Translation From The Perspective Of Newmark's Communicative Translation Theory

The communicative translation theory was proposed by British translator Peter Newmark.It attempts to produce on readers an effect as close as possible to that obtained on the readers of the original and it is suitable for informative text.With the guidance of Newmark's communicative translation theory,the research is based on the date collected during the author's internship in China Daily to discuss various issues that may arise when translating English news into Chinese.The paper analyzes the news translation from three aspects:headline translation,lexical translation and long sentences translation.The author hopes this research can offer some practical solutions for difficulties in English-Chinese news translation.The paper is composed of four parts.It begins with introduction.This part is the basic information of the translation research.Then it comes to the Preparation for the Translation Project,including an introduction to the guiding theory:the communicative translation theory,the description of characteristics of news,and an introduction to the source text and the translator's preparation for the project.Next,it begins to study the translation of news with the guidance of communicative translation theory from three aspects:headline translation,lexical translation and long sentence translation.Some translation samples will be quoted and analyzed here.At last this paper makes conclusions of this research,including the findings,limitation and suggestions.The author hopes to arouse more interest and attention to the study of news translation.
