Research On Cultural Identity In Multi-Cultural Conversation

Khaled Hosseini is one of the most mavelous writers among the contemporary American ethnic literature, his Afghan experience and exile life have become the most important original resources of his novels. From 2003 to so far now, he has published three novels, they are The Kite Runner, A Thousand Splendid Suns and the lasted one, And the Mountains Echoed. These three novels form the whole circle of locating his own cultural identity. From Afghan culture to the western culture, caring about Afghans and considering about the life condition of Afghan diaspora. Lost in the crisis of identity, and then find a way to construct the cultural identity.This essay involves in vary fields of culture to do a research on Hosseini’s novels, including Hosseini’s Afghan experience and exile life in the host country, the cultural characters in novels,religious culture, ethical relationship of family, and the language chosen. The close-reading in text will be used as a research method, and analysis Hosseini’s multicultural identity with postcolonial theory based on Edward Said and Homi Bhaba which involves in culture identity.To explore the lost of identity and the clash of different values of Afghan diaspora in the stage of multiculture, and transcendence of different cultures or backlash to own culture from the cultural perspective. Rasing awareness about the construction development of minority ethnic identity in a harmony environment.The essay synthesized the historically social background and the writters’ diasporic experience on behalf of Hosseini. Hosseini with his own experience and deep concern for Afghanistan. In the novel both showed the unknown two sides of Afghanistan, also reflects the Afghan culture and the fusion of western culture. Cultural identity is not only to construct identity by self, but also the interaction of social, historical, cultural, political and religious forces. Hosseini as a diasporic writter, try to use literary works to construct his crossculture identity. Let the melody of Afghanistan heard by people who have never heard before. Although literature has great influences, this diversification process will certainly not be easy.
