Marrige is a regional customs and culture which formed for a long time.It is not only closely related with the life of the individual, but also to a certain extent reflects the situations of the social at that time.Chinese society at the end of the Qing Dynasty and at the beginning of the Republic of China is a period of transition from tradition to the modern.In this period, China’s politics, economic, culture and social psychology have changed greatly.Marrige as a kind of social customs, inevitably changed. Shandong, as the cradle of Confucius and Mencius culture, was influenced deeply by the traditional culture and changed obvious than in other places.The aim of this paper is to investigate and analysis the customs change at the end of the Qing Dynasty and at the beginning of the Republic of China in Shandong,thus provide historical reference for the modernization of Shandong. The paper consists of three parts: introduction, body and conclusion.The introduction part introduces the purpose and significance of the study, reviews the research status at home and abroad, introduces the research methods and data sources, and analyzes the innovation points and deficiencies of the paper.The first chapter of this thesis discusses the traditional marriage customs to the end of the Qing Dynasty and at the beginning of the Republic of China in Shandong.The formal three parts expound mainly from the marriage before,during and after three stages. The last part of the paper is introduced several common special marriage.So we can have a general understanding of traditional marriage of Shandong.Thus we can laid the foundation to introduce the changes of it.The second part mainly describe the content of the changes of manriage in Shandong. First part,changes of notion of marriage and new form of marriage;The second part,introduce the cause for changes from political,economic,cultural education and social psychology.The third part introduces the basic characteristics of Shandong the change of marriage customs.The article analysis from slow chronic, incomplete and unbalanced three aspects. The third chapter is the analyses and thinking of the change of marriage customs in the modernization of Shandong at the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China. The change of marriage customs at the end of Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China in Shandong is the inevitable result of historical development.Though the process of changes, we should have a selective inheritance from the traditional marriage customs, and make a dialectical analysis of the quality of marriage.In the conclusion section, a brief summary of the whole article, expound the relationship between the changes of marriage customs and social development; point out the significance of modernization in that period and some misconception during the tradition transition.All of this can can play a certain reference role for the spiritual civilization construction of modern Shandong.
