This is a translation project report of "A Classroom Story ", Chapter 1 of Moon Journals written by Joni Chancer and Gina Rester-Zodrow. In this Chapter, Joni gives a personal account of her students’ experiences during the development of their first Moon Journals. This translation project report is composed of four parts. Part One is an introduction of the background of the translation project, in which project origin, significance and organization of the report are included. Part Two briefs the background of the authors and the main idea of the source text and analyzes its language features. In Part Three, the most important part of the report, the difficulties encountered, preparations for this translation and the methods adopted in the process of translation are introduced. For the analysis of this translation practice, Yan Fu’s standard for translation:"faithfulness", "smoothness" and "elegance", is applied, of which "elegance" is the focus of discussion of the paper. In this part, rhyming, four-character expressions, mimetic words and modal particles to achieve "elegance" and some other frequently-used translation methods are discussed via examples. Part Four summaries the enlightenments, lessons and insufficiencies in the translation project.Through this project, the author has deeply realized that a qualified translator should broaden his or her knowledge, get well prepared before translating, keep timely recording in the process, make repeated revision after translation, and get his or her translation skills improved through constant practice.
