The Han stone carving is a special production of the funeral customs of Han dynasty, which is named by carving patterns on stone. As the hometown of Confucius and Mencius, Jining is the birthplace of Confucianism, and it is also one of the regions where Han stone carvings originated. The Han stone carvings of Jining area are various and massive, which has the longest record history. The shrine of Wu family which is located in Jining is beyond comparison in the Han stone research field.This paper mainly focuses on the existing collection of the Han stone carvings of Jining for a simple order, combines with the social outlook in Jining of Han dynasty,adds on the geographical location, theme, engraving skills and so on, which described Han stone carvings’ development stages, distribution characteristics and region characteristics.Firstly, the paper reviews the past research for a short description, and then makes a summary of research traits. Then it discusses Jining’s Han stone carvings from three aspects. The first aspect is the causing of the Han stone carvings’ concentrated distribution in Jining area, in terms of nature, economic, politics, ideology four sides; The second aspect is the Han stone caving’s regional distribution and periods in Jining area. On one hand, according to the regional distribution of concentration, it is divided into six parts. On the other hand, divide it into different periods by engraving skills, shape, theme, design style, screen layout and so on; The third aspect is the analysis of the characteristics and content of Jining’s Han stone carvings. Then classify it in terms of the content.The research of Han stone carvings in Jining area has a long history and abundant date.But setting Jining area as a whole research extent is exceedingly rare.This paper is in research of Jining Han stone carvings for system study, which also carries on the comparison to the geographical features of Jining Han stone carving. These help improve the existing research of this area. At the same time, strengthening the research of Jining Han stone carving can help to improve the public perception of Jining area in history, culture and the other various aspects of attention to some extent.
