A Report On The Translation Of Folk-lore And Legends: Scandinavia

Under the guide of the skopos theory, the translator did the translation of four stories from Folk-lore and Legends: Scandinavia, and analysized the through specific translation cases so as to let Chinese readers know the cultural conventions of Northern Europe and obtain the joy from the stories, as well as to accumulate experience in the translation of folk tales and legends.The report is divided into four parts. The first part introduces the translation project, the source text and target readers. The second part is the translation process, including the preparation before translation, translation activity and modification after the translation. The third part shows the introduction and application of the theoretical framework, introducing three principles of skopos theory. The fourth part displays how to use the translation skopos theory to solve the difficulties encountered in the process of the translation through case analysis. The author chooses translation strategies such as use of modal particles, use of colloquial language, word order adjustment, word addition and omission, consistency of appellations and corresponding figures of speech in translating conversation, narration and description respectively. Finally, the author summarizes this report, and hopes that this report can offer helpful suggestions for other translations of the similar style.
