Jean Marie Gustave Le Cl(?)zio who won the 2008 Nobel Prize in literature is a contemporary French writer, he has become a traveler since his first voyage to Africa,he began to wander in the world. The Secretary of the Swedish Academy Horns Ndale called Le Cl(?)zio "a citizen of the world" because the rich and colorful life experiences makes his works various and diversified Through Le Cl(?)zio’s works, we can appreciate different traditions and customs in many parts of the world. Among all kinds of works of Le Cl(?)zio, Africa is an impressive existence, his special complex for Africa made his novels full of unique deconstructions and poetic imagination.This paper depends on Cl(?)zio’s five novels as the research object to explore the origins and embodiments of Le Cl(?)zio’s African Complex, and also to explore the meaning behind African complex.The first chapter discusses how Le Cl(?)zio makes his African Complex come into being, based on the study of French Sinologist, comparative literature theory,Cl(?)zio’s works and life experiences.The second chapter discusses Le Cl(?)zio’s ideal world which is driven by the African Complex. This part will analyze Cl(?)zio’s works with the archetypal theory and the comparative theory of myths.The third chapter tries to discuss Le Cl(?)zio’s characteristic preoccupations which can be shown in his works, and summarize the ideological connotations in brief.The fourth chapter mainly discusses the significance of the African Complex in Le Cl(?)zio’s novels, affirmed its contribution to the African culture by comparing with the traditional African literature.
