The constitution of educational curriculum system in higher vocational colleges cannot be separated with pubic basic course as a key component. Public English as an important course among public basic courses has been long linked with traditional teaching mode in general high schools or vocational schools. It neglects students’ requirements for future occupations, not close to the objective of talent cultivation for vocational education.Atthe same time, course "professionalism" is not comprehensively expressed.This article makes project-oriented design for higher vocational public English course from the perspective of professionalism anduses the literature analytic method to analyze the demand of the development of career for English teaching.The article makes a survey for public English course situation among 27 higher vocational colleges of Shandong by questionnaire method. It shows that teaching mode does not suite the development of modern society, meanwhile.the teaching activities does not adapt to the professional practice and teaching equipment, teaching material is relatively lagging behind. Therefore.it is difficult to achieve the talents training goal.Based on the analysis of the questionnaire, this article has been clear about the career-oriented curriculum theory.A one-year research is made on practice of reform for higher vocational public English teaching based on the project-based curriculum. It concludes that project-oriented teaching mode which conforms to practical condition of students, is more suitable than traditional for current higher vocational public English course. Besides, it plays an important role in developing enthusiasm of students at class and their application abilities, which lay solid foundation for their future occupation, benefit to their work, life, innovation and development.The Project-based curriculum should take actual jobs as the starting point, establishtraining target, and integrate the work task and knowledge, designproper project.So itcanrealizethe knowledge of learning and the cultivation of the ability to work through the students’ practical application.
