The Evolution Of Diplomatic On Korean Peninsula During The Reign From Wu Zetian To Emperor Hsuan-tsung

During the reign of the only one Chinese empress, Wu Zetian (684AD—705AD), a negative attitude was signaled when dealing with the problems on Korean Peninsula. After the war between Tang Dynasty and Silla, Andong general administering institution was moved from Pyongyang to Liaodong. After the breakout of the war between Wu Zhou Dynasty and Khitan in Yingzhou, Wu Zetian did not continue to support Andong general administering institution, and let it face with the complexity of the situation in Liaodong by itself. During this period, there were few exchanges between Wuzhou Dynasty and Silla which were also just limited to the courtesy of diplomatic procedures, and the relationships between them chilled. After Emperor HsUan-tsung’s enthronement, he response positively to the actions of pro-Tang Dynasty. Then, the bilateral relationships were drawn closely, the exchanges were expanded in many aspects of politics, economy, culture, and a new era between Tang Dynasty and Silla was launched.The background, reasons and performance of the policy on Korean Peninsula during the reign from Wu Zetian to Emperor HsUan-tsung will be mainly discussed in this dissertation which is composed of introduction, main body and conclusion.The first chapter is the introduction. The main body is from chapter two to chapter four; the background, and performance the policy of retreat carried on Korean Peninsula under the regime of Wu Zetian will be discussed in chapter two, the background, and performance the positive policy carried on Korean Peninsula during the reign of Emperor HsUan-tsung will be discussed in chapter three, and the reasons and influences of policy evolution on Korean Peninsula during the reign from Wu Zetian to Emperor HsUan-tsung will be discussed in chapter four. The summary will be made in chapter five, and it is also the conclusion.
