The harmonious relationship between Tang Dynasty and the country of Bohai, Silla maintained a peaceful and stable situation in the area of Northeast Asia in seven to nine centuries. The long-term friendly situation between them was caused by many reasons and one of them was the policy of Zhizishitang(The Hostage Policy in Tang Dynasty), which was actively carried out by the country of Bohai and Silla during the whole Tang Dynasty.Beginning at the Warring States Period, developing during the Han Dynasty, the period from Three Kingdoms to the Southern and Northern Dynasties and Sui Dynasty, Zhizishitang(The Hostage Policy in Tang Dynasty) matured in Tang Dynasty. In the vassal nations of Tang, the country of Bohai, Silla set a good example while dealing with the policy. After conferring titles of nobility on by the emperor of Tang, Dae Jo young sent his son born of the legal wife to Tang with envoys. From then on, Bohai scrupulously obeyed the rules with Tang. The hostages amount and the time duration was rare in the vassal nations of Tang. Since the emperor Yi can Kim Chun-chu of Silla and his son went to Tang Dynasty, asking Tang Dynasty for army to protect their country, the Hostage Policy began to be carried out and last for about 200 years. Though the Hostage Policy remained a basic state policy for the country of Bohai, and Silla, there still are many differences between the two countries when practicing the policy. So contrastive research on this policy of these two countries is beneficial to look into this important problem.Actively practicing The Hostage Policy deepened the communication with Tang Dynasty, in the meantime they learned political and economic system, advanced cultural from Tang and eventually has got great development. The Hostage Policy was a successful application in the country of Bohai and Silla as a policy of keeping under control of Tang. Helping to keep over 200 years peace in the northeast during Tang, the Hostage Policy has directive significance for consolidating the frontier, stabilizing the mainland, maintaining a unified regime and promoting the economic development in frontier.
