As the front gate in China-ASEAN trade, Guangxi has enjoyed great opportunities in its construction and development since the establishment of China-ASEAN Free Trade Area in 2010. Guangxi government has put forward a series of incentive policies to attract capitals, especially foreign capitals. Guangxi Investment Promotion Agency(hereinafter referred to as the client) has many documents concerning investment policies which are in urgent need of translation. This kind of translation tasks are featured with huge amount of information, short time, writing style of Chinese normative text and handling of redundant information. The author signed with the client and undertook the Chinese-English translation of Abstract of Investment Incentive Policies by Guangxi Government (hereinafter referred to as the abstract). The task was to be finished within one month by three team members. Through analysis of the translation process and the source text, the report aims to emphasize on the following four issues:1) The translation of texts with connotation and Chinese culture; 2) styles matching between the source text and the target text and flexible use of translation skills; 3) to overcome the problems and difficulties brought by the "independence" of translators through negotiation; 4) to deal with some words or phrases which are politically sensitive. In the report, the author introduced the background of the translation practice, pre-translation work, translation process and post-translation quality control. The author searched for relevant materials and got to know about the linguistic features of normative documents. During the process of preparation, the author began to understand the importance of mastering relevant knowledge about land resources, taxation, fiscal policies and credit loans. The author found that in translating government documents, special attention has to be paid to some words that bear connotation and are featured with Chinese culture. A series of translation skills, such as literal translation, transliteration and literal translation with explanation, are needed to translate four-character phrases and document names, etc. Meanwhile, the styles of source text and target text need to be matched. The translation practice shows that when translating government documents, translators tend to get fretted as a result of Chinese-style document writing and redundant information handling. Therefore, we need to be patient, careful and responsible in translation. The report also discusses the importance of team unity, the way to negotiate over the difficulties brought by their own independence and the necessity of keeping their own correct opinions when doubts appear in communication with the clients.
