Project Report On The Translation From Extracts From Guangxi Investment Policies By Agriculture Department Of Guangxi

The thesis is a report on the translation of Extracts from Guangxi Investment Policies by Agriculture Department of Guangxi, which are the state and local governmental documents extracted by Agriculture Department of Guangxi, around the central theme of agriculture policy, aiming at providing agriculture investment policy for foreign investors and promoting international cooperation in agricultural sector. The translation project comes from one of research projects of the author’s supervisor, containing11,150-Chinese-character and covering aspects of taxation, fiscal support, land and finance policies, etc. By recording and analyzing the overall translation procedure, the author can learn many translation skills and sum up experiences from this report. It is hoped that this report can offer a practical reference for others undertaking similar translations in the future.Peter Newmark’s Text Typology Theory forms the theoretical foundation for the project and report. The thesis elaborates aspects from pre-translation analysis, working process, and case study to post-translation summary, of which case study is the highlight. The case study includes the translation of the proper nouns, the translation of expressions with Chinese characteristics and the translation of long sentences, in which the author records how the translation strategies and methods serve the translation of informative text of this kind with specific cases.It is found that Text Typology Theory and other translation strategies and techniques including linear translation, conversion, amplification, omission, etc. provide appropriate guidance for translating informative text. In addition, hopefully, the author can improve her translation skills through this project and report as well as offer reference and experiences to other translators.
