As two key aspects of trade and business, tendering and bidding are widely used in trade activities such as engineering, service and commodities exchange. To correctly understand and translate tender documents is vital for a successful bid. Although there have been specific provisions for the format and terminologies of international tender documents, the translation of tender documents also poses some challenges to the translator due to the variety of tendering contents and the diversification of language usages of different countries. Therefore, further research is still needed in this field through more practice and summaries. This report is on the translation practice of a tender document issued by Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC), namely Tender Document of Yangon Secondary Central Business District. It is an E-C translation with a total number of about5,700words. The translator is commissioned by Guangxi Tianhe Jiangxi Merchants Investment Co., Ltd.(Guangxi Tianhe Co., Ltd.) to translate it into Chinese. The source text is a typical international competitive tender document with strong objective and effectiveness as well as clear function. In the process of translation, the translator should make utmost efforts to represent the information accurately and help the client to have a good understanding of the tender document so as to win a successful bid.Based on a text-type analysis of tender documents and the theoretical guidance of Skopos theory, this thesis focuses on case analysis of the following three aspects:①the translation of proper nouns, including the application of transliteration and literal translation;②the translation of long and complex sentences, involving the utilization of division and restructuring;③the translation of passive sentences, including the conversion of passive voice into active voice and the replacement of passive voice with other means. This report aims to discuss the problems met during the translation practice, find out the solutions and summarize the translation techniques that can be applied in translating tender documents and finally offer some reference in this field.
