Cohesion And Coherence In The Simultaneous Interpretation

China has put great emphasis on soft power—culture, as it has a brilliant civilization. At the same time, it endeavors to promote its cultural heritages to the world. In this process, interpreting serves as an intercultural bridge. Kunqu opera and Suzhou Classical gardens are essential parts ofSuzhou culture, as well as of world culture and arts. The preservation and inheritance of the cultural heritages should be based on better understanding of these cultural heritages. Therefore,it is necessary to interpret these documentaries.This thesis, on the bases of discourse cohesion and coherence theory, analyses the application of discourse cohesion and coherence in the interpreting practice and summarizes the corresponding strategies to interpreting difficulties. For the loose structure in simultaneous interpreting, cohesive mechanisms including cohesive devices, lexical links, reference, substitution and ellipsis are adopted. For the prediction, three relavances—theme, meaning and context—are used. For culture-loaded texts, both discourse cohesion and coherence are referred to.All the cohesive mechanismsare interconnected while discourse cohesion and coherence are mutually reinforcing.So in this connection, the adoption of discourse cohesion and coherence theory can help interpreters complete interpreting projects better and improve the quality of the whole discourse.
