The publication of Halliday and Hasan's Cohesion in English marks the establishment of the cohesion theory.Since then, research and application of this theory in the field of translation is becoming more and more comprehensive. However,in simultaneous interpreting, the main trend of research is still based on cognitive psychology, only few are based on cohesion and coherence theories. However,as far as the audience is concerned, the importance of textual coherence in simultaneous interpreting is only second to the content itself,it is an important indicator in assessing SI quality.Simultaneous interpreting is one of the most challenging interpretation activities. In order to fulfill the multitask and to ensure simultaneity of the translation, the interpreter has to consume a lot of energy, thus sometimes neglecting the cohesion of the target language.Through analyzing the on-site simultaneous recording and combining the on-site experience,it is found that the interpreter will produce undesirable interpreting results with problems such as inconsistency, ambiguous reference, and unclear account. In view of these problems, combined with the theory of textual cohesion, this paper focuses on the importance of coherence and the choice of cohesive devices in simultaneous interpreting by primarily analyzing the shortcomings of the on-site SI and the causes behind such interpreting results, and thus propose improvement measures to make the translation truly achieve audience-oriented quality standards for interpreting while maintaining a reasonable cognitive load.
