Le Journal de Shanghai demonstrated the music culture of the French resident in Shanghai during 1920s-1940s by three aspects of music activities, music columns and music-related people and affairs. The dissertation did a single case discussion about musician, musical behavior and social historical environment by ways of fractional information arrangement, tried to seek for the history of French resident in Shanghai’s music activities, construct a musical space in their live in a French Concession, and analyzed this historical value this group reflect in a certain history.The dissertation consists of three parts. Firstly, to discuss the columns of music activity on Le Journal de Shanghai entirely. Not only three broadcasting columns but also the Today column, which chronically provides lots of performance information on this newspaper, were discussed. And, the music activities performance places of 1930s were also discussed. Secondly, the La Musique a Shanghai column of the newspaper which is about music was discussed from four aspects of the French’s daily music activities, music and musicians from China and western countries, Chinese music elements and the Russian Ballet corp. Thirdly, scattered information from other columns of the newspaper were also paid attention to, so as to demonstrate the attention French resident in Shanghai paid to the music affairs that different countries’ performance in Shanghai from three aspects of Chinese tradition music, the non-European music and European music in French world.A strong French characteristic was embodied in the music culture of the French resident in Shanghai. They tried to highlight the culture characteristic and sought for an ethnic identity against Chinese culture context in all kinds of fields. Enclave music has dual features of local culture and immigrant culture, the Shanghai characteristic demonstrate the French people are adapting for the Shanghai culture in this enclave environment, the Shanghai characteristic and the French characteristic are as a cross reference to each other.
