Developed in the 20th century, the main feature of modernism painting is dare to overturn the tradition, create something new and original and not to stick to one pattern. The modern middle school students are in the age of publicizing personality, and pursuing the uniqueness. They are facing such a pluralistic, changing social cultural environment. However, most senior middle schools pay much attention to students’ scores and the school enrollment rate. So the students have a limited opportunity to participate in the creative activities. Even the requirement of the new curriculums reform is the comprehensive development of students’ comprehensive quality to improve students’ aesthetic and creative ability. But the senior middle school students are still like Dawa who is learning to draw Tangka in learning with big data-the future of education and he lacks the innovative thinking and creative ability in the test oriented environment presently. Thus, they simply become the trained apprentices. As time goes by, they will become old-fashioned and timid and lose their personality and creative ability in such educational environment.When the students are involved in the aesthetic field, they always like the conventional beauty and do not want to break the inherent aesthetic concept to re-examine the works of art. So when they face the modernism painting works, most of the students are unable to enjoy this kind of unique and innovative beauty, let alone review and make their own comments. How to guide the senior students to understand the modernism painting correctly and to appreciate objectively is an important subject that can not be avoided in art education of middle schools. At the same time, innovative thinking is the core of modern education as well as the essential power to adapt to the times. In order to study how to use the art curriculums and combine modernism painting appreciation with the senior students’ innovative thinking education to explore its internal relations and let students draw lessons from the creative spirit and the practical ability of the modernist painting, the author summarizes the relations between modernism painting appreciation and students’ creative thinking ability, which we can get some beneficial enlightenment.
