A Study On The Application Of New Media Technology In Digital Protection And Spreading Of Traditional Drama

In current global culture, China’s traditional opera serves as the most outstanding symbol that recognizes China’s national characters. It is a condensation of diverse and abundant racial aesthetical perceptions, regional specialties and prevailing customs, which is deeply rooted in rich and various historical conventions and social life. Moreover, it is the sum of all operas that originate from China, undergo constant development and inherit sufficient essences. China’s traditional opera, together with ancient Greek’s tragicomedy, Indian Brahma drama are reputed as three ancient operas in the world with unique historical and cultural values.Due to the appearance of films, TV series, animation, games and other new forms of massive cultural consumption as well as the change of living environment in rural and urban areas, traditional operas encounter the problem of drainage of audience. There are fewer places and occasions for opera performance, which severely shocks the traditional opera market, causes the serious shortage of successors. Many kinds of operas are at the verge of extinction and are now even disappearing. At present, China lists almost all existing traditional operas to nonmaterial cultural heritage list.In fact, however, this practice does not overcome the problems that traditional operas are confronted with, including the gradual drainage of audience, severe shrinkage of survival space and difficulties in inheritance. To a certain degree, the practice is more like protecting wild animals that are at the verge of extinction. It can only ensure that traditional opera will not disappear too quickly. Now, domestic traditional operas are transforming from the stage of declaration and registration to in-depth protection, inheritance, spreading and utilization.The new media technology based on digital technology and network technology brings new method and hope to protect and spread traditional operas with the advantages of efficiency, quickness, immediate interactivity, easy storage, duplicability, high-degree reducibility, convenient massive spreading. It is now gradually applied in the digital inheritance of traditional operas for it can not only protect and present the artistic charm of traditional operas, but also facilitate the development and spreading of opera culture. New media technology will definitely be the choice for traditional operas’future prosperity.The paper analyzes and summarizes the current situation of domestic and foreign traditional operas’ survival, digital protection and spreading, proposes that the integrated application of new media technology is the key of present and future protection and inheritance of traditional operas, and introduces the form of new media technology and application method from multiple perspectives, including digital collection and storage, digital restoration and recovery, digital presentation and spreading, digital development and utilization, etc. Besides, it elaborates on the path of applying new media technology in digital protection and spreading from three angles, respectively "media integration", "cultural participation" and "collective intelligence". The author puts forward that the protection of traditional operas is a long-lasting basic and conventional task, which correlates to the survival and extinction of traditional operas, while the effective exhibition and spreading of traditional operas is an important task to reverse the current situation that traditional operas are gradually walking toward depression and marginalization. Based on the latest research results both in China and foreign countries, taking Wuju Opera as example, the author explores into the integrated application of new media technology in Wuju Opera, focuses on analyzing and applying the method of spreading Wuju Opera culture in the field of Internet and mobile Internet, designs and constructs the all media network comprehensive platform for Wuju Opera culture.The author aims to summarize the relatively systematic method of digital inheritance of traditional operas by enumerating on and applying digital protection and spreading of Wuju Opera culture, and effectively solve the problems that traditional operas are facing now so as to attract more audience to pay attention to and take part in the protection and spreading of traditional operas, give play to the power of collective wisdom, and facilitate the prosperity of traditional operas.
