First appeared in the United States in the 90’s, the IP(short for Intellectual Property) film industries of U.S. and Japan are in a relatively mature stage. Along with the pan entertainment of film industry and the deeper influence of ‘Internet plus’ on film industry, China’s IP film industry has gradually developed and become the hot choice of investors. Commercial success of investors brought by IP stimulates the enthusiasm for further investment. They are optimistic about the development of IP films, and actively seek IPs with value of development to convert into IP movies, which brings a good opportunity to the prosperity and development of the film industry. However, due to the lack of experience in the operation of IP films and the over value of commercial returns, there are still a lot of problems in the development of IP films in China.This paper is mainly divided into five parts. The first part is the analysis of the main forms of IP films, including reasons for being adapted into movies and the development situation of the main existing forms of IP such as network literature, drama, variety shows and video games. The second part mainly analyzes the reasons for the development of IP film can be obtained, including economic, policy, audience and other reasons. The third part elaborates changes that IP film brings to the film industry, including the Internet and television industry’s two-way interaction, the ‘Movies and TV shows linkage’ phenomenon, the transformation of network novelist into screenwriter and the development of ‘instantaneous culture’. The fourth part mainly analyzes the existing problems in the development process of IP film, such as subject similarity, fragmentation, copyright issues, the confrontation between economic demands and cultural demands. The last part puts forward relevant solutions, trying to promote our country’s film industry to develop orderly and harmoniously.
