The Performance Of Communication Barriers And Solving Strategy Of Chinese Teachers In Thailand

The communication and cooperation between China and Thailand in culture is more and more frequently. No matter the development of Chinese Confucius Institute in Thailand or the talented-person transports of Chinese universities and training institution all pose huge challenges to Chinese-teaching teachers. The teaching activities of Chinese teachers in Thailand are fully displaying their own comprehensive quality. Besides rich language knowledge they also need strong inter-cultural ability. The thesis is based on the teaching in Phratamnak Suankularb Mahamongkol School of Thailand and discusses the obstacles in communications. This paper mainly describes the difference between China and Thailand in aspects of language and culture that influences the living and working conditions of those who teach Chinese in Thailand. I try to analyze the reasons of obstacles and give some guidance or advice of solving the obstacles. The purposes of this research are help Chinese volunteer teachers teaching smoothly and avoid some conflicts and misunderstandings in communication.The research process of this paper is divided into three parts. Firstly, it explains appellation, greeting, gratitude and apology; as well as explains expression in one’s eyes, gestures, body movement, costumes, sense of time, and dining custom between two countries in non-verbal communication. Secondly, I point out the reasons of communication barriers. Finally I try to find out the solutions of communication obstacles. The most important is that we can avoid and eliminate barriers; however it needs every Chinese teacher’s efforts. What we can do is understand Thailand’s religion and history, accumulate the language knowledge and cultural knowledge, in addition respect and accept Thailand’s culture particular pay attention to cultural taboos.
