Intercultural Communication is a comprehensive study involving various aspects of linguistics, sociology, psychology and culture. Different cultural backgrounds cause the cultural differences which will definitely have cross-cultural communication conflicts. Teaching Chinese as a second language (TCFL) is one of the typical cross-cultural communication cases.Teaching Chinese as a Second Language (TCFL) is reforming and improving since the 1960s and achieved remarkable results. The establishment of Confucius Institutes worldwide promotes Chinese as a Second Language Teaching development and surely spread Chinese culture. As we all known, language and culture are connected with each other which are supposed not to be ignored. Teachers and students from different cultural background will naturally occur cross-cultural communication conflicts. How to solve the conflicts in intercultural communication is a problem for both teachers and students. This essay based on TCFL and relates to the following parts:Intercultural Communication and Intercultural Communication Conflict, Conflict Causes and its main form, TCFL research from intercultural communication perspectives, strategies on TCFL conflicts. At the end of the essay, I will look forward to establish the intercultural curriculum applied to intermediate stage students.From the theoretical study of Intercultural Communication and TCFL, the research is not systematic and deep. In terms of teaching practice, the research is still blank. This essay will mainly focus on the connection between Intercultural Communication and TCFL. I hope this dissertation could make some contributions to the Chinese teaching as well as the intercultural communication studies.
