As people’s living standard be leveled up year by year, the public value their pursuit of spirit and experience of feeling very much. Nowadays, tourism industry is flourishing. Population flow is regarded as usual. A great many of young adults would rather spend money on travelling, enjoying the present, than buy a house or a car, being "slaves". Under the circumstance, a good number of universities has made their exchange activities become increasingly frequent. Undergraduates are not to be trapped in multi-media classrooms or surrounding brother schools. Instead, exchange activities are usually carried out in forms of on-the-spot investigation and sight visiting. Therefore, the demand for accompanied interpreting even increases. Accompanied interpreting, generally regarded as the most fundamental and common form of interpreting, requires the interpreter to be able to make quite precise responds in a very short time, without any help of assistant tools like note taking. The author of this thesis had done consecutive interpreting extemporaneously for the communication meeting between undergraduates from Drake University and chief of Pingan Village. This report is an analysis and summary of this practice. This report consists of four parts. The first part is the description of the task’s information. The second part is the description of the task’s process. The third part is the highlight of this thesis, case study. The author’s solutions for problems encountered during the interpreting process will be separately discussed based on the characteristics of the local minority language and of the local minority culture. The analysis of language is mainly about the application of principles, such as faithfulness, inquiry, omission, versatility, error correction, based on text’s style and the speaker’s style; and the analysis concerning the culture will focus on the handling of long sentences and cultural background knowledge. The author of this thesis was aware of the insufficiency in interpreting, such as misinterpretation, miss of interpretation, inauthentic expression, and mind de-concentration. And certain solutions had been found for future practices based on the analysis. The final part is a further thinking about the practice, summarizing some of the author’s experience. The author hopes that this thesis can be of help for future MTI teaching and is eager to exchange ideas with other MTI associates.
