A Project Report On Consecutive Interpreting For 2018 China-ASEAN Young Entrepreneurs "Belt & Road" Tourism Symposium

Since China joined ASEAN,both sides have adhered to the concept of mutual benefit and common development and have achieved fruitful results in various fields.Now China and ASEAN are in a critical period of development.Both sides have their own advantages and their industrial structures also have different characteristics.Fangchengggang is a;"Belt&Road"southward gateway city and a hub connecting China and ASEAN countries.In recent years,it has also continuously seeking cooperative development with ASEAN countries.On this occasion,the China-ASEAN Young Entrepreneurs’"B&R"(Fangchenggang)Economic and Trade Cooperation Activities were held on September 26,2018.Nearly 200 young entrepreneurs from China and the 10 ASEAN countries gathered together in Fangchenggang for this event,which brings huge opportunities for all participants.This paper is an interpretation project report,guided by the Skopostheorie and comprehensively analyzes the whole process of interpretation work,thus providing helpful references for interpreters in dealing with similar tasks.Invited by the Foreign Affairs and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Fangchenggang City,the author was honored participate in this event as an interpreter.During this event,the interpreter took on many interpreting tasks,including the tourism symposium highlighted in this paper.During the interpreting task,despite unexpected challenges,the task was completed satisfactorily,and the author received many favorable comments from both interpreting recipients and the client.This paper discusses the interpreting work from five aspects:task introduction,pre-interpreting preparation,theoretical foundation,case study,and conclusion.The first chapter introduces the background of the event and the description of the interpreting task.The second part introduces the author’s pre-interpreting preparation from the pre-conference communications with the parties involved in this event,preparations for the meeting documents and related vacabulary,psychological and physical preparation,and on-the-spot preparations for the meeting.The third chapter is the theoretical foundation.It introduces the basic concept and the three rules of Skopostheorie.The third chapter also introduces appropriate interpretation strategies from the perspective of Skopostheorie.The fourth chapter is case study.The author analyses the application of Skopostheorie in the interpreting task and corrects several mistranslations.The fifth chapter is the conclusion part,which contains the author’s experience and self-reflection after analyzing and summarizing the interpretation work.
